Learning a new language is certainly one of the most rewarding things you can do, the sense of achievement once you have an understanding of a new language, or better still become fluent, is enormous. And out of the European languages, I would suggest French is the perfect place to start; More than 200 million people around the world speak French, and as the 2nd most popular language, as well as the only other language along with English to be taught in every country in the world, your sure to get a lot of use out of your new skill, and who knows what new opportunities will arise from being able to speak what has been voted the most romantic language in the world.
France also stands top of the list of the world’s most popular tourist destinations. Having a grasp of the local language is sure make your trip a lot more enjoyable, and gives you a much greater insight into the local culture. Better still, when setting out to learn a new language, many people take the opportunity to sprachaufenthalt Frankreich – study abroad in France. Combining studies with travel and getting a true taste of French culture which often enhances the understanding of the language.
These days most countries have large number of language courses available for people looking to sprachreisen – which means to study abroad, and the courses are becoming increasingly popular, especially for younger people looking to travel and work abroad. Learning French will only enhance this travelling experience, and if your studies really develop into a love of foreign languages then French is an ideal base for learning other languages, especially Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.
The practical uses of learning French are that it can greatly improve your employment opportunities. An ability to speak French and English is a huge advantage when looking for work internationally, not only with in France but also in other countries where the language is widely spoken; Canada, Switzerland, parts of Africa. You could also take these skills further afield and teach, a large number of countries offer teaching positions within schools and universities across Asia for example.
The benefits of learning a new language are enormous in my opinion, whether it is for a sense of personal achievement, to enhance your travelling experience, or to broaden your future opportunities in work and life, the initial difficulties in grasping French will soon be outweighed by what comes once you are fluent.
